Vitodens 222-F is the gas-powered condensing water heater, designed as the floor-standing unit that utilizes the storage water tank and internal indirect coil, for space heating and domestic hot water production, mainly in residential applications. The 222 series offers two Energy Star approved models, B2TA-19 with the gas input from 3.5 kW to 20 kW and B2TA-35 with the gas input range from 5.5 kW to 37 KW.

Vitodens 222 F

When comparing Vitodens 222 with the two previous models from the Vitodens 100 and 200 series, the 222 group of boilers are not wall-mounted but floor standing. It utilizes one small 26-gal water storage tank and a 3.2-gal expansion vessel, making it heavier and bulkier.

The storage DHW tank is made of durable stainless steel for protection against corrosion and is part of the Advanced Storage Tank Loading System technology, STLS, together with the external plate heat exchanger and load pump for domestic hot water circulation.

And with the integrated sensor technology, the minimum flow rate is not required for regular operation.

Water flow

A model B2TA-35, for example, is a powerful model, and thanks to the STLS system, the boiler is capable of delivering hot water faster than models without this technology. This translates into the 10-minute peak water flow of 60 gallons, or continuous flow of 3.3 GPM, based on the temperature rise of 70 F. The smaller model B2TA-18 comes with the 1.8 GPM of constant draw rate or 44-gallon maximum draw rate over 10 min. period.

Outdoor reset function

The 222 group of boilers are high-efficient, and there are several features that contribute to energy loss reduction, such as the outdoor reset function that adapts the operating temperature inside the boiler in relation to the outdoor temperature change.

Quality burner and heat exchanger

The main components are still the same as found on the 100 and 200 series, including the ultra-performing Inox-Radiant heat exchanger and modulating MatriX cylinder burner, all made of stainless steel, for efficient and reliable work with the reduced emission of greenhouse gases.

The Lambda Pro is the combustion management system that allows a gas burner to operate with different gas types (natural, LP, and LNG) and altitudes. This provides self-calibration with simple adjustments on the electronics, resulting in better efficiency, quiet operation, a greener environment, and less hassle.

User-friendly electronics

The heating process in these combi-boilers is controlled through the HO1B control unit and its microprocessor that helps in achieving the optimum performance and comfort, while the LCD display allows easy and user-friendly navigation through the main parameters of the heating process; from the temperature adjustment to multiple zone heating control, also diagnostic details with fault messages.

The installation of the venting system is quite flexible as there are multiple venting options with pipe lengths of up to 180 ft. As a direct vent unit with the sealed combustion, the Vitodens 222-F boiler can be installed almost anywhere inside the house, including the living area of a home, closet, or attic. The system uses the concentric venting system with pipes made of PP, stainless steel, or any other approved material and terminated vertically or horizontally.
