Viessmann Oil Fired Boilers Review

Viessmann oil-fired boilers are designed in sizes from 83 to a maximum of 300 MBH and are used for space and indirect potable water heating in both residential and commercial applications.

The advanced technology allows these oil-powered boilers clean and efficient heating that helps in energy and emission reduction. And by adding the solar heating system, the cost reductions are even higher.

Models

There are two groups of Viessmann oil-fired boilers, Vitorond 100 and Vitola 200; both are made as low-temperature boilers that use the modulating burner for better performance, while the precise measurement is in direct correlation with the feature that measures the outdoor temperature.

Vitorond 100

Vitorond 100

Vitorond 100 is the line of Viessmann oil-fired boilers available in six sizes, so the power goes from 91 to 245 MBH while the maximum A.F.U.E. rating can reach a high 86.9%.

The unique boiler design utilizes a triple-pass sectional heat exchanger made of cast iron for better heat transfer, a durable stainless steel combustion chamber, and thick 3.5-inch thermal insulation.

Such a design allows heat that is generated in the combustion chamber to travel longer through the heat exchanger with reduced heat losses, so more heat energy is transferred further to the water, while the products of combustion are exiting the boiler with the lower temperature.

The lower temperature of flue gases is also beneficial for the boilers as there are less condensation and thermal stress so that they can last longer. For better and precise control of the heating process, Viessmann recommends the Vitotronic control unit that adjusts the boiler water temperature to the outdoor temperature, resulting in higher efficiency and lower heating costs.

Vitola 200

Vitola 200

Vitola 200 line is a group of gas and oil-powered units, available in six sizes, with the output from 83 to 300 MBH or 21 to 76 kW.

As the above Vitorond 100 series, 200-group can operate with the ultra-low temperature, which can go as low as 80 F, so the boiler can shut off completely if no heat is required.

Vitola 200 is very economical and provides low emission combustion mainly thanks to the optimized combustion chamber design, and with the minor changes, the temperature of the flue gases can be adjusted. This is what increases the efficiency and extends the unit's life. The A.F.U.E. rating is up to 87.4% for oil and 84.5 for natural gas, making them Energy Star compliant.

The previous group of boilers included the heat exchanger made of cast iron, while the Vitola series utilizes the bifferal heat exchanger with the double-wall construction, made of combination steel and cast iron, for better protection against condensation and thermal stress and longer life. The combustion chamber is made of durable stainless steel for efficient and clean combustion, while its horizontal configuration allows easy maintenance and service.

Vitola 200 boilers utilize effective thick 3.5-inch insulation, have a large water storage tank where the maximum capacity is 59 gallons and wide water walls, so the heat stays longer inside the unit, and the burner works less and lasts longer.

Vitotronic 200 digital control unit located on the top of the unit comes with the smart technology that makes the heating operation reliable, accurate and fast, maintenance, and service under control. Equipped with the push buttons and LCD display, the adjustments are easy.

Due to their flexible direct venting, compact and smaller size, Viessmann oil-fired boilers are ideal not only in new homes but as the retrofit in older buildings, as a suitable replacement of the outdated and inefficient water heaters. It is recommended to use them with the Viessmann oil-powered burners and appropriate Vitocell water storage tanks.

As seen from the above, Viessmann oil-powered boilers are truly efficient appliances suitable for heating potable water, space radiator, baseboard, and in-floor heating. Also, if combined with solar thermal systems, the savings are even higher.
